ANOTHER BUSY WEEK: The Aggies will embark on another busy week as they play six games in seven days... They begin Monday at home against Gonzaga before traveling to play Saint Mary's on Tuesday and San Francisco on Wednesday... They return home on Friday to begin their first official Big West Conference series against Pacific... Tuesday's game at Saint Mary's will be simulcast on KDVS 90.3 and ucdavisaggies.com.... All UC Davis home games will also include Gametracker.
ABOUT GONZAGA GAME: The Bulldogs swept a three-game series with Sacramento State over the weekend... Gonzaga won the final game of the doubleheader, 18-12, which was their second-highest run total of the season... The Bulldogs have now won four consecutive games and are 15-8 heading into Monday's game with UC Davis... This is the first meeting between Gonzaga and UC Davis.
ABOUT SAINT MARY'S GAME: The Gaels lost two of three games to UC Santa Barbara over the weekend... The Gauchos swept the Saturday doubleheader, 9-3 and 11-4, to take the series... It was only the second series Saint Mary's has lost this season... UC Davis and Saint Mary's met three weeks ago at Dobbins Stadium... The Gaels won that game, 4-1, behind solid performances by Geoff Byrns and pitcher Anthony Aliotti... Byrns had a triple, home run and two RBI's to lead the way while Aliotti allowed only two hits in seven innings of work.
ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO GAME: The Dons swept a four-game series from Fairleigh Dickinson last weekend at Benedetti Diamond... The Dons swept the Saturday doubleheader by scores of 9-2 and 11-1 to complete the series sweep.... They Dons have now won five consecutive games and stand at 13-10 on the season... USF beat UC Davis, 7-6, when the teams met at Dobbins Stadium three weeks ago... The Dons scored four runs in the final two innings and held on for the one-run win.
ABOUT PACIFIC SERIES: The Tigers split two games with No. 17 Stanford last weekend... Pacific won the first game 10-6 and lost the second, 7-3... Pacific scored nine runs in the fifth inning of the first game to earn the win... The Cardinal used a balanced attack to claim the second game as seven players drove in runs... Pacific is now 5-15 entering Monday's series finale at Stanford... UC Davis took two of three games from Pacific last season... The Tigers rallied to score eight runs in the eighth inning to take the first game, 12-10... The Aggies won the next two games by a combined score of 24-10.... This series marks the first official Big West Conference games for UC Davis... The Tigers and Aggies were picked to finish seventh and eighth, respectively, in the preseason coaches poll.
AGGIES SWEEP WEEK: UC Davis went 5-0 last week with a victory over Nevada and a four-game series sweep over Santa Clara... It marked the second time this season that the Aggies have swept a four-game series... IF Ty Kelly and OF Ryan Scoma each hit grand slams in the second inning against Nevada to lead UC Davis to a season high 18 runs... Scoma finished the game with a season-best six RBIs... It was the second and third grand slams for the Aggies this season... RHP Eddie Gamboa threw the first shutout since 2006 with his four-hit complete game victory over Santa Clara in the first game... The senior needed only 89 pitches to earn his team-leading third victory of the season... Two of the victories over the Broncos came in a doubleheader sweep at Schott Field in Santa Clara... UC Davis combined to score 52 runs over five games.
SCOMA EARNS WEEKLY ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS: Junior transfer OF Ryan Scoma became the first Aggie baseball player to earn Easton Big West Player of the Week honors... Scoma finished with eight team-leading totals, which included a .571 batting average, 12 hits, 10 runs scored, five doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, 23 total bases and a 1.095 slugging percentage... He totaled four doubles, eight hits, a home run and seven RBIs in the series sweep over Santa Clara... His highlight in the Santa Clara series came on Sunday when he hit a three-run homer to lift UC Davis to the sweep.
PETERS GETS NUMBER 400: UC Davis Head Coach Rex Peters earned career win No. 400 during the first game of a doubleheader at Santa Clara with the 12-5 victory... He has coached a total of 14 seasons at Chapman and UC Davis... The win over Nevada on Monday gave Peters No. 150 at UC Davis, which already puts him second all-time behind only legendary Aggie coach Phil Swimley, who coached at UC Davis for 34 seasons.
AGGIES ARE DIVISION I/BIG WEST MEMBERS: University of California, Davis, officially announced itself as a Division I school on July 17... The Aggies completed a rigorous four-year process at the end of the 2006-2007 season that proved its readiness for the toughest athletic competition, academic requirements and regulations at the NCAA's top level of play... The official announcement that the Aggies were official members of the Big West Conference came on July 1... Led by sixth-year head coach Rex Peters, the Aggie baseball team will be eligible for the postseason for only the second time in the Peters era.
